New Wedding Venues for 2015-2016
13th May 2015 - 0 comments
Its not very often I get a new venue to add to the portfolio, especially as we've photographed over a 140 weddings in the passed five and a half years but lately we have had some new booking confirmations.

Namely:

The Corran (formerly Hurst Hotel) Laugharne
Cornish Tipi Weddings, Cornwall
Buckland hall, Brecon
Llechwen Hall, Nelson
The Barn, Southerndown
Oldbury-on-Thames

Its always nice to add a new venue to the portfolio as I understand quite a few Brides & Grooms like to book a photographer who has had experience of a particular venue.

Personally I thrive on new challenges and enjoy the challenge of photographing a 'new venue'. Often a fresh eye can create slightly different wedding pictures from the norm.

I remember one of my early weddings at Coed y Mwstwr, I put up a picture on Facebook of the Bride & Groom and because of the angle I used and the positioning of them I had two other wedding photographers come on to me saying " thats not from Coed y Mwstwr, you can't do that shot there"
I just smiled and said oh really :)

So the moral of the story - dont be put off if you wedding photographer hasn't 'shot there' before as it isn't always essential, as often a fresh pair of eyes can often create some unique pictures for you.
Melissa & Mark Wedding at De Courceys

In the same month I was asked again to be the wedding photographer at De Courceys, this time for a lovely couple named Melissa & Mark.
When the couple warn you that their pet Jack Russell was going to bring the rings down the aisle I knew we were in for something special.
It was a lovely wedding from start to finish. Here are just a few of the 1000 plus images that Melissa & Mark will be receiving on their USB Album.

Wedding Preparations
24th April 2015 - 0 comments
The day before a wedding I always try to remain calm, relaxed and utilise it as a day of preparation.

The task of battery recharging in itself is a metaphorical exercise for my own preparations.

I begin the morning with a study of the notes from the Bride & Groom Meetings. I study the family and wedding party names so that I can converse in first name terms.

Plan the Group Shot List in terms of order and possible choice of compositions.

Double check the colour scheme and ensure suit and tie matches the wedding. Polish the shoes, my partner Rebecca irons the shirt! :)

I plan the routes, upload post codes in to the sat nav in reverse order so that I get an exact route from my home to the Grooms home to Brides home, Church and final destination the Reception. Take the car through the car wash!

Next is the methodical preparation of both cameras. Going through both, side by side so that they match identically in set up right down to the exact seconds in the clock as well. This allows me to sync both sets of memory cards to align in to one file during the uploading to the iMac.

Format 8 16GB Memory Cards

The battery recharging takes virtually all day. I charge 32 2450mAh rechargeables by Eneloop Pro Batteries. 4 Canon Camera batteries, 1 Ice Light and 2 Profotto Battery Packs.

Next is the support bag with Light Stands, Softboxes, umbrellas, Flash Trigger.

Next is a little research again on the venue (if new).

Finally a recap on the notes and final revision of names and timings of the day.

Just before bed double check all bags are packed and ready in the studio for loading in to the car in the morning.

Oh I do leave the Wedding Book out so that I test myself on names and timings once more over morning coffee! Plus I type the note details in to my iphone as back up.(Must be my age)

Its Official March 2015 has been the 'best' financial month since I started as a professional
23rd April 2015 - 0 comments
I wouldn't like to be 'just' a wedding photographer as I love the variety of being a professional photographer and the opportunities it presents.
I believe this philosophy allows me to be both fresh and creative
and has allowed me to create a sustainable professional business now in its sixth year.

I've been very fortunate to be the designated professional for numerous local and international companies in the Bridgend area.
Plus I love Newborn Baby Shoots along with capturing treasured memories for families and couples.

In any given month I have between 3 and 6 wedding meetings with new Brides & Grooms looking to consider me as their wedding photographer. I carry out between 5-10 commercial photo shoots both at my studio in Bridgend, on location or at the business of my clients. Also on the constant increase between 1-5 New Born Baby or First Birthday Cake Smashes at my studio in Bridgend. Top this off with between 3 - 8 weddings a month, plus the occasional Engagement Shoot, it makes for very little down time with my lovely partner Rebecca or my gorgeous grandchildren Harvey & Archie.

Below are just a few images from a typical month.

To accompany all of the above are hours and hours of editing and finishing quality products to deliver to my clients whether it be via Dropbox, USB or Disc presentations, prints, canvasses or our stylish wedding albums.

In closing I would like to thank each and every one of my clients as without your continued support I would not be carrying out my dream job as a professional photographer.

Sharon & Dewi's Italian Romantic Wedding in Tuscany
06th October 2014 - 1 comment
I recently had the pleasure to be the chosen wedding photographer for my first International Wedding in Tuscany.
Sharon & Dewi chose Romantic Italian Weddings to organise and plan their stunning wedding, run by Marco Bernasconi a perfectionist and a true gentleman.
My partner and I arrived two days before to ensure we could familiarise ourselves with the gorgeous medieval town of Cortona and the amazing villa where the family, friends and Bride & Groom stayed called Villa San Crispolto
The whole experience from beginning to end was perfection. Nothing was left to chance, the organisation, the details, the weather, the food and wine was all amazing and a wedding experience I would repeat time and time again.

Here are just a few of the 2000 images Sharon & Dewi will receive on their stunning USB Presentation case from which they will have to select their images for the beautiful Artemis Album.
