Canon Mark iii Update
19th January 2013 - 0 comments
Further to my recent post regarding the amazing new Canon 5D Markiii I have to add having now worked with it following extensive research and practice I have to conclude its a totally different camera to the Markii.
It focusses faster, its sharper, the images appear clearer, the additional features such as a rating images button, the higher ISO capabilities all encompassed in a great feel grip body. I am so looking forward to my first wedding with this camera next weekend at the gorgeous stately home of Northbrook Park.
Here are a few images from my first pro shoot with this camera
Canon 5D Mark III
10th January 2013 - 0 comments
In my endeavour for improved service and results I have just purchased one of thee best camera bodies available today, the much acclaimed Canon 5D MarkIII.

The higher ISO levels will allow me to create even better Church scenes at weddings due to the improved capabilities to shoot in low light. This was one of the main reasons I purchased this body. It has many many other improved capabilities but over the 5D MarkII which I currently use, this is the main improvement. I am still delighted with the MarkII and it will continue to be my work horse on most commercial assignments and situations involving adequate lighting, but the MarkIII will be the wedding first choice body when used with the 70-200 2.8 or the incredible 85mm 1.2 creating amazing pictures from beautiful wedding scenes.
The battery grip is also a must. Having come from 1D heavy professional camera bodies, anything after those just feel like toys in your hand. So like I did for the MarkII I had to buy the grip same time to give it better feel and balance.
Now its a proper camera!
Baby Paignton First Photo Shoot
03rd December 2012 - 0 comments
I had the delight of photographing Paignton's first photo shoot this weekend.

I arrived at 12 and set up in their living room, moving back the settee which gave me enough space to set up my first scene.

Christmas Present from santa!

The rest of the scenes then flowed from gorgeous hat box and flowers to large garden tub and our gorgeous teddy.

We hope you like the samples we have here for you and look forward to helping you capture pictures that will be memorable reminders of your gorgeous little baby.

Shhhh baby Paignton has had a hard day at the studio!
Public Dancers
29th November 2012 - 1 comment
This is the first in a series of images depicting dancers, gymnasts etc in every day situations performing, not very every day movements!

I have been inspired by an American photographer Jordan Matters. In this first series several of the scenes are based on Jordan's inspiration where as others are from my own creative ideas.

I will be developing a whole series of images along these lines. There will also be themes within a theme. For example I intend to create several sets of images where the backdrop of the town or city will play a large part within the composition. Title Bridgend Public Dancers, Cardiff Public Dancers etc.

The whole set will culminate in an exhibition of work, plus possible entry in to several artistic photographic competitions and even submissions for recognised photographic awarding bodies.

Each of these prints are available for purchase signed in 18in x 12in high quality photographic print paper at £25 each. For multiple purchases of two or more they become £20 each

Claire & Leigh recently married at St Teresa's Catholic Church followed by a glorious reception at the Margam Orangrey. But no wedding would be complete at Margam Park without a photo opportunity on the stairs in Margam House.

Below is just a sample of the images taken to help create last memories for Claire & Leigh of their wedding day.

Pelican Inn, Ogmore by Sea Web Site Shoot
11th January 2012 - 2 comments
I recently carried out a shoot for Steve Fisher the publican at the lovely Pelican Inn opposite the Ogmore Castle.

The pub has an excellent restaurant and superb bar areas. It offers outstanding food and it gives the feel of a warm friendly country pub.

I wanted to capture this atmosphere in the images I have taken for The Pelican.

I have attached a few samples here but the rest will be able to be viewed shortly on the updated web site of the Pelican Inn.

Recently I helped with the installation of an amazing handcrafted 12 seater Dining Table & Chairs for a friend and sculptor Craig Sheppard to the home of Gavin Henson.

I was commissioned to take some commercial shots for Craig and only in passing I asked Gavin would he pose for me for my web site. I was so impressed with his relaxed demeanour and his willingness to help us out. I hope he likes his picture now!
Margam Castle Wedding Workshop
21st October 2011 - 0 comments
Just completed a lovely workshop at Margam Castle. Actually found I didn't really learn that much but it was reassuring to find that most of what I do is good practice already.

Managed to get one or two lovely images of the model Bride we had for the day as there were plenty of other photographers jostling for position

The added bonus is that I have a wedding booked Margam Castle next year and this was a lovely opportunity to find some greta angles and lighting set ups for some truly wow factor images

Just as my learning and my thirst for knowledge never stops, neither does my re-investment in my business.

I am continually striving for perfection, I am very self critical and even though my work is being continually valued and complimented upon I still search for that next level.

Canon 5D Mark 11
To master Wedding Photography the way I wish to capture it requires controlling very low light situations. My current EOS 1D Mark 11 & my 1Ds Mark 11 continue to produce exceptional quality images but recently I have added to this the much acclaimed 5D Mark 11 which I used for the first time (after a week's intense practice) on Ruth & Andrews Wedding at the Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel, Bridgend.

To be able to shoot at such high ISO settings and still produce excellent quality images is amazing. It has opened up another world of settings for me, which in turn will allow me to be more creative.

Canon 85mm 1.2 11 L USM Lens
Oh boy the 5D Mark 11 with one of thee fastest lenses produced is the ultimate wedding photographers combination! This is a monster of a lens with such a narrow depth of field at 1.2. This not only has its challenges but once mastered will produce some of thee most dreamy images attainable.

The Future
I have several world renowned wedding photographers web sites stored in my favourites and constantly review their work. I relate to their styles and truly believe in what I am achieving and can visualise the future style of my own work.

My arts background is allowing me to see the possibilities and the relationship with everything I have studied as a trained artist and the high quality cameras and lenses I now possess.

Mastering light is getting closer and closer

Lovely Ruby Celebrations at Coed-y-Mwstwr
25th April 2011 - 0 comments
What a lovely day for Mair & Ron to celebrate 40 years of marriage at the Coed-Y-Mwstwr with the close friends and family.

I was a surprise guest organised by the children of Mair & Ron. Mair a former Registrar has conducted many weddings at the `Coed-y-Mwstwr, so I felt very honoured to be asked to capture them both as the centre of attention for a change.

Very shortly Mair & Ron will be receiving a Loxley Exclusive Wedding Anniversary Book filled with lovely memories from their special day.
Latest Portrait Shoot

Lauren needed a decent head and shoulders image for her college portfolio as a dancer.

So we took the opportunity of shooting outdoors at Coity Castle on a brilliant sunny day.

With such a strong sun we had to shoot in the shade which really gives such soft colours and great natural tones.

Whilst we were there we thought we might as well shoot some extra poses.
